WAITLESS, a new dramedy directed by Ted Lange and written by Cailin Harrison, had its European premiere this year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Blissful newlyweds Shelly and Trent revel in their hectic NYC life until Trent is suddenly transferred to London. Dreaming of weekends in Paris and Rome, Shelly gives up her dream job (and favorite Mexican restaurant!) to follow her heart.
But expat life isn’t as BBC as Shelly anticipated. Trent’s work consumes him, there's not a decent jalapeño martini to be found, and Shelly finds herself waiting for her husband, her work visa, and for their new life together to start. Abruptly, Shelly realizes that she isn’t stuck on the treadmill of life; she’s waiting to get back on it.
Through humour and poignancy, WAITLESS probes the strains and joys of expat life as Shelly loses her identity and purpose, only to rediscover them in a most unexpected way.
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival production was directed by RADA graduate, NAACP “Renaissance Man, and featured Edinburgh Fringe veteran & Teapot Award for Outstanding Theatre Performance winner Jessica Moreno and Hollywood Fringe Producer’s Pick winner Andrew Boyle.
